As a school counsellor, this is an area I am incredibly passionate about. Too often in the education system and the corporate world, a poor working memory is mistakenly treated as a reflection of a person's intelligence. That couldn't be further from the truth! ADHDers regularly possess high intelligence paired with incredibly low internal storage capacity. We explore what working memory actually is—the brain's mental workbench or real-time sticky note system—and why it constantly drops information, leaving us vulnerable to instruction fatigue and a vicious cycle of shame.
